What's New at JHP Stranraer
From Fish to Chips - How one young man turned his career around with JHP
Peter Benson used to be a Fisherman. Working on board a trawler, he earned his living catching Cod and Haddock in the local fishing grounds. So when he first came through the doors of the JHP Business Centre, we weren't exactly sure how we could help.
But, it turned out that Peter wanted a change in career direction. Bored of the life on the open sea, he wanted to turn his hand to something a little more technological, and settled on an IT Apprenticeship! Made all the more incredible by the fact he had never before used a computer in his life, his decision continued to flummox us until we discovered that he had an amazing talent that had been hidden all along.
The truth is Peter is brilliant at building computers. All he needed was to be shown how the components fitted together and he was away, building machines from scratch and completing his Level 2 qualification in an incredible 6 months. He then progressed to Level 3, gaining a placement with a local computer repair company and continuing his great work. He's now finished his qualification and is looking for full-time employment in the world of computing. Good luck Peter!
Steps up the Career Ladder for JHP Learners in Gretna
JHP Training has been building solid relationships with businesses across Dumfries and Galloway for a number of years. As these relationships grow, we find we are able to offer long-term training solutions for our customers, equipping generations of staff for excellence in the workplace.
A great example of this is Gretna Gateway Outlet Village, a successful link which is yielding effective employees on a consistent basis. A great number of JHP candidates, who completed Modern Apprenticeships in Customer Service or Management, have now gained new positions in phase 2 of the building of the Village. These individuals have progressed from assistant to supervisor, and have even moved on to become Managers of the new stores.

JHP Stranraer also successfully run Programme Centre, a course which aims to enable candidates to regain full-time employment - we are currently boasting 45% attendees into work.
In addition, our in-Centre training room is equipped to deliver qualifications such as ECDL, Using IT, Business Administration and job search facilities.
