JHP Training has three Business Centres in the North East - in Hartlepool, Darlington and Gateshead. With over 20 highly motivated and skilled staff, we have an impressive range of expertise and experience within the vocational training industry. As well as offering a wide range of work based training to those already in employment, all of our staff members are committed to supporting non-employed learners into employment through the effective and successful delivery of Job-seeker training.
Through our three North Eastern sites, we have established many successful relationships with individuals and local employers, plus flourishing partnerships with Jobcentre plus and eQ8. All in all, past and ongoing successes have placed placing JHP North-East as one of the region’s top training providers.
During National Apprenticeship Week (23rd – 27th February) JHP
Training Hartlepool will be giving people the opportunity to find
out the real story about Apprenticeships, from the people who matter
the most – past and present Apprentices who have experienced it for
themselves and will tell it like it really is!
To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week JHP Training Hartlepool
will be holding an Open Day on Thursday 26th February, from 3.30pm
to 6.30pm, which will give people who are looking to make decisions
on their future career the opportunity to find out how a JHP
Training Apprenticeship can help them to achieve the career success
they deserve.
As well as the experienced centre-based staff there will also be the
opportunity for those considering an Apprenticeship to ‘Ask the
Apprentice’ – a chance to find out what’s really involved in an
Apprenticeship and how it can propel you to career success, from 18
year old Robin Johnson who has ‘been there, done that’ with a
Business Administration Level 2 qualification with JHP Hartlepool
and his employer, Independent Financial Services, and is currently
undertaking a Level 3 qualification to further enhance his career.
Jane Leonard, Employment Support Officer at JHP Training Hartlepool
feels ‘Ask the Apprentice’ is a step forward in opening up the
communication channels between Apprentices and those contemplating
which direction their future will take:
“As a training provider we see first hand the, often, life-changing
impact Apprenticeships can have but finding a way to communicate
this to prospective learners can be challenging. We felt it was
important that those looking into Apprenticeships as their next
career move feel as comfortable as possible when asking questions
and more importantly feel confident that the responses they are
getting are not ‘text book answers’. This is the benefit that ‘Ask
the Apprentice’ has, who better to give an accurate account on the
ins and outs of Apprenticeships than those who are working towards a
qualification themselves?”
At JHP Training we know the value of Apprenticeships, annually we
work with over 20,000 people all with one thing in common – the
vision that vocational training can be used to drive their futures
forward and enhance their skills, but we can’t communicate this on
our own, so when better than during National Apprenticeship Week to
take the time to help us spread the word – Apprenticeships are the
future!
Fifteen Cleaners working with Easington District Council have overcome obstacles to achieve NCFE Health and Safety qualifications with JHP Darlington.
Most of the learners had not previously held any qualifications, with many doubting their ability to achieve. But their uncertainty came to an end in spectacular fashion recently when all fifteen completed the qualification!
Easington Council were, quite understandably, over the moon with the achievement and decided to celebrate with a buffet lunch at the Council Chambers, with all cleaning staff invited. At the event, also attended by the Mayor and JHP staff, certificates were awarded, plus wine and flowers in recognition of JHP’s hard work. However, JHP’s greatest accolade came from the Deputy Major, who remarked “Your Training Company has done a brilliant job.”
As an extension of JHP’s involvement with the District Council, the Centre decided to donate £200 from their charity kitty to the Major’s appeal. JHP staff are pictured presenting the cheque to the mayor in the presence of all the successful learners.
In November Tees Valley Learning and Skills Council held their annual learning awards. The event has a history of being a tough competition, with only the best learners being put forward, so when JHP found out one of our learners had been nominated we were over the moon!
Not that luck had any part in Retail learner Ashley Smith’s nomination – hard work, and an incredible achievement rate have made him one of our very best learners, despite having initial difficulties when he joined JHP. When Ashley first came through the doors of JHP Training he had little self-confidence, but with help and support from Centre staff he was found a work placement with a local carpet company. Here he was given training and encouragement from both his team and Manager as he set about achieving his Apprenticeship.
The work placement gave Ashley a chance, and he never looked back – within eight months he had completed all the units on Retail Apprenticeship and was offered a full-time job with the company. Friends and colleagues have seen him turn into a confident, competent young man, his dedication to achieve being recognised by his nomination for the award.
Ashley narrowly missed out on scooping the “Best Retail Achiever” award, but the nomination itself, not to mention the £250 prize, are certainly great accolades to both him and those who have supported him.
JHP Darlington learners were recently involved in a role-play event which aimed to teach youngsters about the consequences of arson.
JHP, working in partnership with County Durham Police and Fire Service, has been working with 15 young people as part of the e2e Citizenship 2000 programme, which aims to make participants more aware of society and how they fit within it. The ‘arson and arrest’ event aims to function as a practical lesson to further underpin knowledge gained in lessons back at the Business Centre.
Trainees from JHP Darlington witnessed a bin fire at the fire station and were briefed on the operations of the Fire Service and fire safety. In addition to this, they were able to watch the ‘mock’ arsonist’s arrest, being shown what happens when a person is caught committing a crime. The day concluded with a fake trial where the culprit was sentenced.
Both the Evening Gazette and The Northern Echo reported on the role-play, which was good publicity for JHP, and great for the learners to see themselves featured in the press for all the right reasons! Catherine Cavilla, e2e co-ordinator, revealed that there could be no doubt that the learners thoroughly enjoyed the event:
“This project is extremely popular and we had more people wanting to take part than we had space.”
