What personal qualities does an Internal Verifier require?
You definitely need to like people, so strong communication skills are a must together with a keen eye for detail as updating records and monitoring performance are a key part of the job too. It’s also important to be self-motivated and good at time management to fit in the many demands on your time.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I get real satisfaction seeing assessors improve their performance and develop in their role through my support.

How have you developed and grown in the role?
Since joining JHP Training I have become a more confident communicator and have a stronger, more indepth knowledge of Internal Verification and the requirements of the awarding bodies we deal with.

Can you recall your proudest moment at work?
Receiving the Nurturing Potential Award at the 25th Anniversary Dinner and Awards Ceremony in September 2008. I was delighted to be selected for this award which was given to me in recognition of my achievement as highest performing JHP Assessor and for going the extra mile to support learners and colleagues.

A day in my life….
My days are really varied which makes the job so interesting.

A typically busy day may start with a one to one meeting with an assessor to provide support and discuss areas for development. Then I may attend an off the job training session within the childcare team to monitor their progress. Later I may make an assessment visit to monitor an assessor in the field and record my findings on the online portfolio. If any new assessors have joined the region I will need to plan and implement their induction too.

If I’ve been out and about a lot it is important to make time for updating online systems and planning. Towards the end of the day I return home to update relevant records to meet awarding body requirements. I may also need to complete final Internal Verification checks to claim certification for learners. I organise monthly visits with External Verifiers and must plan for the assessor meetings which I chair each month. I also prepare monthly reports which I provide to the Regional Lead Internal Verifier and Training managers. 

How do you see your future?
I would like to become a Training Manager or take on more responsibility in the Internal Verifier role.
